Privacy policy

Crime Current collects only what the product needs and treats news browsing as reading—not as permission for invasive profiling.

Information you provide

Crime Current account registration or Google sign-in supplies your email address and display name. Crime Current stores account credentials in protected form, revocable sessions, saved stories, followed cities and topics, alert preferences, comments and membership status. Payments are handled by Stripe; Crime Current stores provider customer and subscription references but not full card details.

Reading and analytics

Crime Current is structured to measure qualified browser readers, sessions, landing pages, engaged time, scroll depth, article completion, search use, alert signups, referral clicks and aggregate city or topic interest. It filters development traffic, private routes, known crawler user agents and raw framework requests. The service keeps daily aggregates plus short-lived hashes of browser-generated random session tokens; it does not store IP addresses, raw referrer URLs, search terms, emails or account IDs in reader analytics. Reporting is never sold as a list of people interested in a particular criminal case.

Reader account features

Saved stories and follows are stored with your signed-in account so they can sync across devices. Comments are public and attached to the display name you choose. Private preferences are not used to infer guilt, personal risk or criminal involvement.

Free-reading meter

The browser stores a rolling list of story slugs and view times so Crime Current can provide four free full reports in each rolling 24-hour period and show a device-local recently viewed list. This information stays in that browser and is used for access and return navigation, not to infer sensitive personal interests.

Retention and choices

You can delete your reader profile, saves, follows, preferences and ordinary alert-interest record from the account page. A minimal email suppression record may be retained after a complaint or suppression request so the address is not contacted again. Other operational records are kept only as long as needed for security, legal compliance and auditability.
