D.C. police have announced an arrest in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Jasmine Malone on Congress Street in Southeast Washington.
The Metropolitan Police Department said Seventh District officers responded to the 1300 block of Congress Street SE at approximately 6:29 a.m. May 12 for a report of an unconscious person. Officers found Malone unconscious, not breathing and suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.
MPD says members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 23-year-old Malachi Rawlings of Southeast Washington on July 31 under a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. Rawlings was charged with second-degree murder while armed. The charge is an allegation; the department's August 2 release does not identify a plea, next hearing or case disposition.
